"There’s a booklet I wrote titled A Case In The Making. It’s an account of my personal experience of a case in court. I titled it as such because that is how I felt about my case. Although the judge had given the verdict and I was to pay the fines, I was still left with a lot of unanswered questions. Have you ever watched one of those investigative shows on television such as COPS or America’s Most Wanted or something of that nature? You have a case that was closed ten years ago, and one investigator decides to reopen the case? That is how I feel about my case. The disposition the judge gave left me in a daze that I still had a lot of unanswered questions. So, I share in the booklet the story behind why I made a big deal over a traffic ticket whereas people are charged with more serious crimes every day.
The truth of the matter is this was not the first time I had ever been to court. My experience with my traffic ticket reminded me of a time when I got charged with a much more serious crime. One of the most difficult things about being dragged into court is not knowing what your rights are and whether you will be given a second chance to make things right. A Second Change With The Justice System is a written account of my own personal experience in jail and with a local Diversion Program in which I participated. This booklet is a frank portrayal of what happens when we make silly mistakes and get into trouble with the law, even when unintentional. The time that I spent in jail made me appreciate life in a new way. I share this story in the hopes that it will motivate others who have found themselves in a similar situation to appreciate life outside the jail cell and take advantage of programs such as the diversion and reduced-sentencing programs.
I believed in the second chance that the court system offered during the diversion program I participated in. Getting charged with a felony made me realize that there was a lot to be learned about the court system.
Years later when I received a traffic ticket, I did not have the money to pay for the fines. So, I decided to represent myself in court. I didn't win the case, but I got familiarized with the legal system in America, different types of laws, and the Constitution. I was in the middle of writing my autobiography when I decided to spend some time educating myself at the local municipal court. Out of that experience, I decided to put what I learned about the trial process in a booklet titled Understanding What Is A Trial. It is a booklet that covers the rudimentary elements of the court system. It provides basic information concerning a trial and a defendant's rights in court.
In The Face Of The Law is an educational book about the foundational elements of the court system. It is a three-part series book with subsets titled A Case In The Making, A Second Chance With The Justice System, and Understanding What Is A Trial. The author shares about her own experiences with the court system and the life lessons she learned through the process. Included at the end of each section are enrichment exercises that are related to the text and can be turned in as part of homework.
In The Face Of The Law is a study tool that can be used by educators and community leaders alike. Its main objective is to provide an educational platform that is informative and geared towards fostering an awareness of how one's actions can have legal repercussions in the judiciary system, and encouraging better decision-making and life choices among young adults.

"This is exceptional material."
"Your book is an interesting read."
"Our literary viewers have found your book fascinating."
“The author weaves words together like a fine thread, formulating ideas, relating scenes or images together exceptionally. The voice is pronounced and consistent, which is vital in any celebrated literary piece."
"Reading Secret Diary of a Shy Girl immediately transformed me into her world. I didn't put this book down till I was done and I would resemble Akpene to a modern day Adrian Mole.
The characters are very well described and they often have you wanting to read further to find out what happens to them. Parts of the book have you smiling while others have you close to tears.
The Diary of a Shy Girl portrays your average every day shy person dealing with their puberty. I would highly recommend this title."
As an adolescent girl, I always wanted to be like the other kids. I wanted to live life as they did. I admired the relationship they had with their parents, and I longed for the same closeness they shared. I was looking for someone who was like me, who dealt with parent absenteeism, did not go through the natural bonding experience as a child, and struggled with adapting to change.
The extent to which this impacted me only became clear when puberty came. I had developed an ulcer by age twelve. I struggled to find my identity among my peers. I wished I could be free like the other kids who were allowed to go out and date. I admired the popular girls but could only dream of being like them.
There was a time I would never have thought of publishing a memoir. As I grew into adulthood and reread my childhood diary, I became more open to the idea. Between the pages of this book is a story about youth, growing up, faith, and a search for God. In writing it, I have shared a synopsis in time; an account that is personal, candid, solemn, and amusing.
